Between 1970 and 1972, Ron Tudor's Fable Records established itself as the premier independent record label in Australia. In January 1972, Tudor and singer/songwriter Brian Cadd launched Bootleg Records, a new label along the lines of Leon Russell's Shelter Records in the USA. The idea was to have a 'house band' – known as The Bootleg Family Band – to back artists signed to the label for recordings and live performances.
Cadd was already a music veteran, having been in popular Australian bands The Groop and Axiom – a supergroup of sorts, which also featured singer Glenn Shorrock and bass player Don Mudie. Brian also acted as Fable's A&R Manager and house producer.
The label was very successful and yielded hit singles and albums for Bluestone, Mississippi, Kerrie Biddell and Dutch Tilders, as well as The Bootleg Family Band and Brian himself. Brian Cadd was by far the most successful act on Bootleg, with three Top 20 albums and nine singles in the Top 100.
Brian's self-titled solo debut album, released in 1972 has been unavailable for several years and much sought-after by fans. FANFARE RECORDS is pleased to present the original album on CD, replicating the LP as closely as possible.
For this special release, we have included two bonus tracks: Show Me The Way, Brian's collaboration with Don Mudie following the breakup of Axiom in 1971, and School Days, a rare instrumental track. School Days – credited to Brian Cadd & The Bootleg Family Band – was featured in the TV show Class Of 74.and was used as 'B"-side of the 45 release of the very successful theme song.
