Sappho is a provocative, passionate and enthralling love story, set on the Greek island of Lesbos in the 1920's. The film centres on a modern day love triangle between a newly-wed American couple, Sappho and Phil, just arrived on the island for their honeymoon, and the daughter of a Russian migr archaeologist, Helene. As the three form a complex and scandalous mnage a trios, Sappho comes to believe that she is the reincarnation of the ancient poetess Sappho who first put the ""lesbian"" in Lesbos. As the present and the past seem to merge together, our modern day Sappho is lead to an act which repeats the passionate death of the ancient poetess.
