Montreux concerts are renowned throughout the world, filmed in an intimate surround with pristine production. Youssou N'Dour is one of the true superstars of African music. A native of Dakar in Senegal he has been singing and performing since his childhood. He has performed with many leading western artists including Paul Simon, Neneh Cherry and Branford Marsalis but is perhaps best known for his association with Peter Gabriel. He was one of the stars of the 1988 Amnesty Tour (available on DVD from Eagle Vision EREDV313) and appeared at the recent Live 8 concerts in Hyde Park, the Eden Project, Paris and Edinburgh - three of them on the same day! This concert from 1989 features him with his band Le Super Etoile de Dakar in the first of the four appearances he has made at the Montreux Festival to date. Featuring many of his best tracks including Immigres and Shaking The Tree it is a showcase for the colour, emotion and energy so characteristic of his performances. As a bonus there are five tracks included from his 1995 appearance including the worldwide hit 7 Seconds.
